These guidelines address the relief of suffering and the optimal management of patients with stroke at the end of life. Their main purpose is to contribute to the development of skills in communication, setting treatment objectives, and decision-making. Furthermore, they focus on symptom management and specific care in patients with severe stroke. The recommendations are based on a systematic review of the literature and international guidelines on the subject. The levels of evidence and grade of recommendation are based on those established in the 2016 classification of the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association Task Force.
